Educating For the Future

The Maurice J. Tobin K-8 School in Roxbury Crossing is an extended service preschool, elementary, and middle school serving 438 students. Community partnerships aim to facilitate students’ social-emotional well-being and academic success.
Volunteering opportunities include the annual Spring and Fall Outdoor Clean-Up days in May and September and donations to the CRT Chanukah Tobin Clothing Fund supporting families in need of assistance to purchase school uniform clothing, particularly for new immigrant and homeless students.
12th Annual Tobin School Spring Clean-up has been postponed to the next year.
Please save Saturday September 12 for the next Tobin event, when we will need all hands on board as we welcome back the school community.
Another Fun Day at the Tobin School!
A small, hardworking CRT crew joined members of other Tobin partner organizations with school staff and families to clean and plant the exterior garden spaces with spring bulbs and flowers. The May 4th gathering, sponsored by CRT with donated flowers and Boston Parks and Recreation tools, marked the 11th year of the semi-annual event. We observed a marked reduction in trash thanks to dedicated custodial staff and a new middle school program to help maintain the property with the creation of a composting area behind the school.
A highlight of lunch was the presentation to Principal Toledano of the nearly $2,000.00 raised during our CRT Chanukah Tobin School Clothing Drive. These funds help provide the recommended school uniforms for needy students, particularly children of homeless families currently living in local shelters.
Celebrate Chanukah with a gift for Tobin School students
For the past several years the CRT Tobin School Chanukah Fund for student uniforms has assisted families to purchase shirts, skirts, pants, and sweat suits. Thanks to the generosity of Temple members our collection provides clothing for many K through 8th-grade students, who are designated by school staff. The children of homeless families living in shelters are some of the recipients of gift cards for purchase of school uniforms. Wearing school uniforms is an important assist in helping underserved and newly arrived students assimilate into the Tobin community.
Please consider a donation this year in your own name or to honor or remember family or friends. Donors and those named by congregants will receive a CRT letter recognizing the contribution, explaining this annual holiday program.
Please send checks to 15 Newbury Street or donate online.
Tobin Principal Efrain Toledano, staff, and students send thanks to CRT for the continuation of the clothing program and for all of our Social Action outreach to their Boston Public School in Mission Hill.
