Thanks to all for your kind donations to our recent High Holy Day Food drive. This was our 10th annual drive to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank. We had a good year. 70 bags- 720 pounds of food (average of 10 pounds per bag – so kudos for your Yom Kippur schlep!) This translates into 600 meals for our neighbors who are hungry.
Special thanks to the ‘ministering angels’ who arrived at 7:30AM to help load the truck – Jill Silverstein, Sandra Fairbank, Meryl Langbort, Bob Gabbay, and Rob Wright.
It is wonderful to see our Temple take an active role in helping to support those in need. A mitzvah to start the new year!

Sisters in Spirit is a gathering of women from Central Reform Temple, Emmanuel Church and The Turkish Cultural Center/Peace Islands Institute (TCC/PII) engaged in Jewish/Christian/Muslim interfaith dialogue. Meeting every 6-8 weeks, we toggle between conversation about our unique faith traditions and practices, and cultural customs and identity, and putting our values into practice through shared community service projects and volunteer support for a variety of agencies.
Our Sisters in Spirit conversation about racism and social justice as experienced by Jews, Muslims, and Christian women continued on July 26. We are exploring how we might help with Black Lives Matter by providing a needed service to a primarily Black organization in Boston. Our next meeting TBD will be in late August or early to mid September. If you are interested or want to know more, please contact Jennifer Coplon or Jill Silverstein.

Common Cathedral’s program for the homeless community
We have been gratified by the initial generous response to our Temple’s fund drive in support of the programs for the homeless community hosted by Emmanuel Church, and operated by Common Cathedral, an agency affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese. In the midst of the current emergency, many nearby shelters and programs have closed, leaving hundreds desperate for food, shelter, and basic services. Characteristically, our cherished Emmanuel Church has resolved to remain open for as long as possible to care for as many people as possible. Two meals are offered daily, along with counseling, and with sleeping space in the Parish Hall.
